Effect of zolpidem in chronic disorders of consciousness

Abstract:

Zolpidem is a non-benzodiazepine drug belonging to the imidazopiridine class, which has a selective agonist of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and is used for the therapy of insomnia. Zolpidem has been reported as an "awakening drug" in some patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC), while study included more samples failed to show any clinically significant improvement on group level. It implies that the effect is relevant to personal sensitivity.
