Abstract:

High mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) is a highly conserved nonhistone nuclear protein that contributes to the architecture of chromatin DNA. HMGB1 is actively secreted by inflammatory cells or released by necrotic cells into the extracellular milieu, where it might be involved in the triggering of inflammation. Nowadays, an increasing number of researches discovered that HMGB1 do play an important role in the genesis and development process of traumatic brain injury, ischemic brain injury and hemorrhagic brain injury. This review summarized the overview of HMGB1 and its roles playing in the mechanism of brain injury.

Key words: High mobility group box- 1, Brain injury, Cerebrovascular disorder, Craniocerebral injury
