Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of deproteinized calf serum injection on lactic acid in cerebrospinal fluid of patients with acute severe brain injury.

Methods

Sixty patients with severe brain injury in Department of Neurosurgery of Tenth Peoples Hospital of Tongji University, from January 2014 to January 2016, were randomly divided into the group with treatment of deproteinized calf serum injection and the control group. The lactic acid contents in cerebrospinal fluid, the ratio of cerebrospinal fluid lactic acid and sugar contents were compared between 2 groups. The patients’ prognosis after 3 months was compared too.

Results

The lactic acid contents in cerebrospinal fluid of deproteinized calf serum injection group were less than the control one during the treatment period after 3 d (P<0.05). There is no significant difference in the ratio of lactic acid and sugar in the cerebrospinal fluid between them (P>0.05). And after 3 months, the scores of GOS were 3.86±1.10 and 3.39±1.58 (P<0.05), respectively, the prognosis of treatment group was better in the group with treatment of deproteinized calf serum injection.

Conclusion

The deproteinized calf serum injection can effectively reduce the lactate acid in cerebrospinal fluid of patients with acute severe brain injury, improve aerobic metabolism in brain tissue, and improve the prognosis possibly.
