Abstract:
Objective
To study the effect of thioctic acid combined with metformin on nerve conduction velocity and oxidative stress in treatment of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).
Methods
One hundred and ten patients with DPN were randomly divided into observation group and control group, both receiving conventional control blood glucose, control group as given metformin, while observation group as given thioctic acid combined with metformin.Clinical symptoms, nerve conduction velocity, oxidative stress reaction were compared between two groups.
Results
Curative effect:the effective rate of observation group was significantly higher than the control group(96.36%vs 85.45%;χ2=3.960,P<0.05).Clinical symptoms:the score of lower limb and foot pain, paresthesia, burning in observation group were significantly lower than that in the control group(t=3.245、4.111、5.638,P<0.05).Nerve conduction velocity:observation group median nerve, common peroneal nerve motor conduction velocity, sensory conduction velocity were significantly higher than the control group(t=4.126、5.178、7.325,P<0.05).Oxidative stress response:observation group serum malondialdehyde(MDA)and c-reactive protein(CRP)were significantly lower than the control group, superoxide dismutase(SOD)was significantly higher than the control group.
Conclusions
Thioctic acid combined with metformin can help to relieve patients'clinical symptoms, and promote the recovery of sensory and motor nerve conduction velocity, reduce oxidative stress reaction, improvetheraputicaeffect.
