Comparison of the early postoperative complications of cranioplasty using outside/inside temporal muscle method

Abstract:

Objective

To comparison the early postoperative complications of outside/inder temporalis method in frontal-temporal skull defect of cranioplasty,and to explore the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods.

Methods

Ninety-five with unilateral cranioplasty in our department from 2011 to 2014 were retrospectively analyzed.Sixty cases underwent outside temporal and thirty-five underwent insider temporal muscle cranioplasty.The early postoperative complications(postoperative subcutaneous hydrops,postoperative hemorrhage,infection and epilepsy)and the subcutaneous drainage was compared.

Results

The two operation methods had no obvious difference in the postoperative subcutaneous hydrops,postoperative hemorrhage,infection,epilepsy and the subcutaneous drainage(P<0.05).

Conclusion

Two surgical methods have no obvious difference in the early postoperative complications,however,outside temporal muscle method is more suitablefor the patientswith deep introcession beforeoperation.
