Abstract:

Objective

To explore the feasibility of head scanning with 16 row mobile CT made in China under the condition of ambulance transportation.

Methods

Ninety-five healthy officers and soldiers (volunteers) from a training base of the army were randomly divided into 3 groups: group Ⅰ (n=77), ambulance head scanning in the stop state; group Ⅱ (n=11), ambulance head scanning in driving state; group Ⅲ (n=7), setting electromagnetic interference environment. The imaging quality, motion artifact, data acquisition and information transmission of the 3 groups in different states were analyzed and compared.

Results

Bone window imaging: The skull, orbit and sphenoid sinus in group were clearly imaged in three groups. Window imaging of brain tissue: The structures of eyeball, optic nerve, brain stem, cortex and white matter were clearly displayed in 3 groups, but there were different degrees of motion artifacts in the skull base. Among them, 16.88% (13/77) subjects had slight linear motion artifacts in group Ⅰ, 81.82% (9/11) subjects had obvious motion artifacts in group Ⅱ, 14.29% (1/7) subjects had slight linear motion artifacts in group Ⅲ. χ2 test showed that there were significant differences in between group Ⅰ, group Ⅲ and group Ⅱ (χ2=21.645, 7.901, both P<0.05); there was no significant difference between group III and group Ⅰ (χ2=0.031, P>0.05). The data acquisition and information transmission of mobile CT are normal in the state of electromagnetic interference. The dose of CTDIvol was 36.27 mGy in 3 groups.

Conclusion

The 16 row mobile CT scan image is stable and safe under the conditions of ambulance driving and electromagnetic interference, and the data are normal of acquisition and information transmission.
