Penetrating brain injury (PBI) is relatively rare, including missile brain injury and nonmissile penetrating brain injury (NMPBI). The clinical management of PBI is controversial, and most of the guidelines and recommendations currently available are non-civilian, most of them involving missile brain injuries. Due to its rare incidence, extremely high fatality rate and disability rate, effective prevention and treatment methods need to be explored from the aspects of craniotomy mechanism, diagnosis, complications and treatment. In this paper, the mechanism, diagnosis, complications and treatment of foreign bodies in NMPBI in recent years were reviewed, so as to provide suggestions for the clinical management of such diseases.
